Rams Get Carded and Fall to Arizona

—How bad do you have to play to make the Arizona Cardinals look like a competent football team? Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams showed us this afternoon at SoFi.

—The problem with this team is not Matthew Stafford or the roster. Stafford for the fourth straight week engineered a late scoring drive to either tie or give the Rams the lead. He got the win in Philly, but the NFL gave the win to Denver in Week 3, and Stafford wasn’t on the field as the team has lost on field goals in successive weeks.

The problem is Sean McVay and his coaching staff.

—Sean McVay will get another “Oops” phone call from the league office on the phantom personal foul flag on Josh Wallace during the Cardinals final drive…Of course, this time McVay won’t mention it.

—Fourth and one, and you hand the ball of to Davis Allen?

—Why is the kicker making the tackle on his first kickoff? Because he’s part of the team, but he wasn’t thinking. Yet, the coverage was so bad that Blake Grupe likely prevented a touchdown.

—If the Rams had won…Ethan Evans should have been given a bonus.

—Chris Shula’s inability to make adjustments is killing this team. The Rams not giving up a touchdown is a testament to the talent on the defense. The Rams getting worked up and down the field by Jacoby Brissett is an indictment of a DC who cannot anticipate or think on his feet (heat of battle).

—The Rams were 4-of-10 on third down, 0-2 on fourth down, and lost a critical fumble deep in Arizona territory.

—Devante Adams left the game late grabbing his knee—untouched.

—The Cardinals Bam Knight, a UDFA RB who entered the league in 2022, rushed for 80 yards on 15 carries (5 yards a crack). He also caught 2 passes for 18 yards.

—Matthew Stafford was hit 7 times, and sacked 3 times.

—Warren McClendon gave up no sacks, no pressures, no hits.
Steve Avila and David Quessenberry’s numbers are not as good. Alaric Jackson was missed.

—“We won’t win a game unless we figure out how not to beat ourselves. Just so many unforced errors, so many things that are not in alignment with what we want to do, specifically on the offensive side of the ball.”—Sean McVay

—The Rams defense recorded zero sacks.

—Among the Rams inactives: Tutu Atwell… Make it make sense.
